ABUJA (SundiataPost) – One of Nigeria’s greatest scholars, Prof. Obioha Chima Nwana, 86, is dead. He died on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States.
O. C. Nwana was formerly the Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.
He was the second fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE), a height he attained in 1993 after Prof Grace Alele-Williams, who became the first fellow in 1990.
He hailed from Arondizogu, in Ideato Local Government Area of Imo State.
The late Prof Nwana was also the son of the late Pita Nwana, who in 1933 without much formal education, wrote Omenuko, the path-breaking Igbo novel, which for several years was a recommended text in secondary schools for Igbo literature.
