LAGOS – Sikiru Ahmed, head coach of Niger Baseball and Softball team, has urged the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) to partner with the National Sports Commission (NSC) to promote the sports.
The NBSA is incorporated as a non-government and non-profit making organisation, which is only recognised but not affiliated to the NSC.
Ahmed told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Saturday that the non-affiliation of the association with the NSC over the years had affected the development of the sports in the country. [eap_ad_1] He said “what we are having now in baseball and softball is not the best for the sports because we are not under the NSC.
“I believe one of the solutions is to find a way that will enable us to go back to the government by affiliating with the NSC.
“By doing so, we can also benefit from what other team sports are getting from the NSC.’’
On the forthcoming NBSA congress scheduled for November in Port Harcourt, the coach urged stakeholders to elect credible individuals into the executive board.
He stressed the need for stakeholders to vote in people that would assist to develop the sports.
He said “if election will hold in November, individuals who are passionate and ready to move baseball and softball forward should be elected.
“The only way out of the current situation is to get the right people there that will come up with programmes that will boost the sports, especially at the grassroots,’’ he added. (NAN)
