|AKURE – The Ondo State Micro-Credit Agency (OSMA) on Friday disbursed N2.5 million as loan to 50 poor women at Ago Ireti Leprosarium in Akure North Local Government Area.
Mrs Banke Sutton, the Chairperson of OSMA, who presented the loan, said the state government meant well for all the people, especially the women.
“Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has shown his eagerness toward eradicating poverty through means of empowerment by giving loans to as many that are willing to invest.
“He has taken it as compulsory the eradication of poverty and suffering among the female folks.
“As a result of this, N2.5 million is now being given to 50 women here in Ago Ireti.
“Each beneficiary will receive N50,000 each,” Sutton said.
She added that the governor had directed that no interest should be charged on the loan, saying that prompt payment would attract juicy opportunity.
“Mr Governor has told us that we should not charge any interest on this loan because it is meant to cushion your pain and challenges.
“Therefore, if you can pay back the loan as being speculated, greater benefit will be given,” Sutton said.
Commending the gesture, Mr Tunji Fatimehin, the General Secretary of the leprosarium, thanked the government, saying that it was the fifth time that such benefit would get to them.
He said that the husbands of the loan beneficiaries would influence the prompt payment of the loan.
Responding, Mrs Funke Falokun, one of the beneficiaries, promised that they would make good use of the loan.
Similarly, Mrs Comfort Ogunleye, opined that the gesture would transform their lives positively.
The entourage of the chairperson were Mrs Tolani Isiaku and Dr Lanre Adeleye, who are board members.
Also present was Mr Dele Ologbese, the General Manager of OSMA, and other executive members. (NAN)
