A NAN correspondent, who went round the ancient town, observed that markets and shops had re-opened with commercial activities running unhindered.
Mr Abayomi Omoworare, the Patron of New Market in Ile-Ife, told NAN that the re-opening of the markets marked the end of the traditional rites for the late monarch.
Omoworare said the Oro deity had performed the necessary rites for the departed monarch and urged traders and residents to go about their normal businesses.
Also speaking, Mrs Alaba Kayode, the Matron of Fowobaje Market, expressed happiness over the re-opening of the markets.
A resident, Mrs Kemi Fabeku, said the late Ooni was no ordinary king and deserved the traditional rites of passage.
She added that all rituals were done for the sake of maintaining peaceful co-existence in the ancient town.
NAN reports that the mourning period, which was initially scheduled to end on Aug. 20, was extended to Aug. 23. (NAN)
