We are optimistic of qualifying for Olympics, says weightlifting coach

Abuja – The Head Coach, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Cosmos Samson, on Tuesday boasted that the National weightlifting team would qualify for the upcoming Rio Olympic Games.

An African qualifying championship has been scheduled to hold in the Cameroons, from May 10 to May 16.

Cosmas told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that 15 weightlifters had been camping toward the event.

“We resumed camping on March 12 with 15 lifters – eight men and seven women — with four coaches in charge.

“Six of the lifters that represented the country at the Africa Games in Congo are among those in the camp.The federation is doing everything to ensure that we are comfortable at the camping site.

“We are optimistic that some of some of our lifters will secure tickets for the Olympics at the championship; that is the target we set for ourselves.

“We are going to Cameroon to book tickets for the Games; we have done it before we will do it again’’.

The Olympic Games will hold from Aug. 5 to Aug. 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. (NAN)
