Organisers cancel France concert over Islamic comments

Paris   – A concert, Eagles of Death Metal, scheduled to take place during a rock festival in August in Paris has been cancelled, festival organisers said on Friday.
The cancellation, according to the organiser, is due to Islamophobic comments made by front man, Jesse Hughes, in a U.S. magazine.
“Being in total disagreement with Jesse Hughes’ recent sentiments given in an interview with an American media outlet, both Cabaret Vert and Rock en Seine festivals have decided to cancel the band’s performance,” the organizers said.
Eagles of Death Metal were having a performance at the Bataclan music hall in Paris on Nov. 13, 2015 when it was targeted by Islamist extremists in a series of attacks.
Ninety people at the Bataclan were killed.
Hughes, a noted pro-gun conservative who is also an ordained priest, alleged in an interview published in Taki’s Magazine on May 14 that French Muslims celebrated the killings.
He blamed the attacks on the effects of liberal “curriculum” and affluence. (dpa/NAN)
