Osogbo – The Osun Government has prosecuted 29 offenders for violating various environmental sanitation laws in the state.
Alhaji Ganiyu Oyeladun, General Manager of Osun Waste Management Agency (OWMA) made this known on Thursday in Osogbo, while speaking with newsmen.
Oyeladun said 29 offenders were on Wednesday prosecuted by the state mobile court for violating the state environmental laws.
“Those prosecuted were fined a total of N232,000 for various degrees of environmental law offences.
This is a measure to curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state,” he said.
Oyeladun, therefore, warned residents of the state against violating the state environmental sanitation laws, to avoid being prosecuted.
The general manager said that environmental sanitation laws were made to ensure good health and well being of the people.
He said that officials of OWMA held a meeting with Council Managers of Local Governments in the state on how to develop a blueprint for the implementation of environmental sanitation in the state.
He said the previous O’Clean Technical Committee, at the local government level, was also dissolved while a new one was re-constituted.
He said the new committee comprises a 9-man standing committee, expected to present a workable sanitation policy for the state.
