OSOGBO – The Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, said on Wednesday that the government would continue to encourage religious tolerance and unity in the state.
Laoye-Tomori stated this at the inauguration of the House of Assembly Christian Fellowship Chapel Complex in Osogbo.
The deputy governor said there was no time the government attempted to Islamise the state, stressing that the government would continue to create an enabling environment for religious tolerance.
She said the government believed in freedom of worship and would never discriminate against anyone based on religion belief.
The deputy governor also said that the government were able to execute many developmental programmes because of their fear of God and commitment to service.
Laoye-Tomori, who commended members of the assembly for building the chapel, said she was happy to inaugurate the chapel three years after she laid the foundation.
She promised that the executive would continue to work with the members of the assembly
to move the state forward.
Earlier, the speaker of the assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, said people must continue to tolerate one another irrespective of their religion.
According to Salaam, the chapel was built to show that there is no religion discrimination in the state.
“What we are doing today is to prove to the whole world that we have respect for religion in the state.
“There is no religion discrimination in the state and government will continue to allow religious tolerance as stipulated in the constitution.’’
Earlier, the pastor-in-charge of the chapel, Muyiwa Ayeni, expressed appreciation to
