Auchi – The Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Haliru Momoh, on Thursday donated farmlands to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in the community.
Momoh told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Auchi, Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo, that the gesture was geared toward providing a source of livelihood for the IDPs.
According to him, the donation is part of the community’s effort to support the IDPs ravaged by insurgents in the North-east.
The monarch said the IDPs were human beings created by God.
“They may not have anywhere to go to in their own communities where Boko Haram and other insurgency groups are destroying people on a daily basis.
“What we decided to do is to give them a temporary permit for three years, by giving them lands to farm,’’ he said.
The Otaru said the community admits strangers as citizens of the community, adding that it would continue to give succor to the IDPs in the country.
He urged individuals, organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to show love and support the IDPs in the country.
“We should take them as human beings that are created by God; they have trials and tribulations in their own environment, with no homes of their own in our community.
“They have become a part of us and we must show love and support to them,’’ the monarch said.
