The preliminary probe launched on Friday could lead to war crimes charges against Israel, whether [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
relating to the recent war in Gaza in which 2,200 Palestinians died, or its decades-long occupation of Gaza.
The Palestinians also want the court to probe Israeli settlement activity in the occupied territories.
The Palestinians, meanwhile, could also face prosecution, possibly for rocket attacks launched into Israel by militant groups operating out of Gaza.
According to UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, the Palestinians will not become a full member of the court before April 1. (dpa/NAN)
