Omu-Aran – Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara, have passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the party’s present executive led by Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo.
The members made their intention known on Friday during the party’s congress to elect its representatives to the National Convention of the party scheduled for Rivers State later in the month.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Gbenga Awoyale, from Arandun, was unanimously elected by members as the party’s delegate to the convention from the local government.
A total of 59 delegates from across the 11 wards of the council voted to elect Awoyale in the congress.
Alhaji Azeez Yakub, the party’s Chairman in the council, said the state executives as presently constituted were blessed with men and women of immense quality, honesty and integrity.
He said the executives were equally endowed with the desired vision and capabilities needed to steer the ship of the party to the desired destination.
Yakub urged members to disregard the unwarranted rumour making the rounds as regards the campaign of calumny against the state executive led by Oyedepo.
The party boss also urged the members of the party in the local government to remain united, assuring that their yearnings and aspirations would be achieved with the present executive in place.
Also speaking, Mr Shuaib Olanrewaju, a party elder from Omu-Aran Ward 3, said the task of being an opposition party in the present political dispensation was too enormous than to engage in any other unwarranted distractions.
He enjoined party members to be more dedicated and steadfast in their resolve to contribute to the development of the party’s principles and ideals.
Awoyale, in his acceptance speech, thanked the members for giving him the opportunity to represent them at the convention.
He promised to continue to uphold the party’s tenets that would translate to victory for the party in the future political transition.
“I will continue to keep the interest of the party above other personal gains, so as to be able to take the party to the desired promised Land,” he added. (NAN)
