Abuja (Sundiata Post) Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) on Monday signed memorandum of understanding with 33 political parties in Abuja in attempt in a grand plan to oust President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government which has been accused nepotism.
This was the fulcrum of the agreement that underscored the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by all the political parties in the coalition, according to a communique read by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi, after the meeting rose, on Monday evening.
The meeting, which had former Vice President and PDP Presidential Aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, R-APC Chairman, Buba Galadima, Dino Melaye and others present, to unfold some of the strategies aimed at ousting Buhari in 2019.
Speakers after speakers, had assailed Buhari’s style of government, accusing him of not only shrinking governance to a few of his cronies, signposted by the most parochial and provincial government ever known to the history of Nigeria, but one, characterised by an unprecedented spilling of the blood of Nigerians in various parts of the country.
Part of the resolution stated: “That the party shall promote the emergence of a government that will usher in abundant peace, happiness and prosperity and ensure the safety of life and property inside a truly and well-structured Nigerian federation.
“That the parties shall work together to ensure the emergence of a joint presidential candidate, of which modality shall be under a separate agreements of the parties.”
Apart from backing a single presidential candidate in 2019, the parties, according to the resolution, would also pursue the “core values of the restructuring of the federation of Nigeria in other to secure lives and properties as well as enhance the economic, political and social wellbeing of Nigerians.
Former Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Ben Obi, while capturing the essence of the meeting, told reporters that the memorandum was to ensure that member-parties united and strategised to wrestle power from the APC, adding that the 2019 election was “a battle between light (the coalition) and darkness (the government of APC).
