Birnin Kebbi – The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has started training 2, 200 unemployed youths under its Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (BNOAS) and Cosmetology Schemes in Kebbi.
The Director-General (D-G) of NDE, Dr Nasiru Mohammed- Ladan, speaking at the orientation programme for the trainees in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday said that the training was in line with the directorate’s mandate of reducing unemployment in the country.
“It is the statutory mandate of the NDE to train unemployed persons in order for them to acquire skills and become self- reliant as well as become productive members of the society,” he said.
Muhammed-Ladan, who was represented by the state Coordinator of the directorate, Alhaji Abdullahi Danjuma-Machika, added that the Federal Government had invested huge amount of money in the training to ensure its success.
He , therefore, urged the trainees to pay attention to their trainers so that they would justify government’s investment on them.
According to him, 1, 100 youths, comprising males and females , will be trained in various demand- driven skills and another 1,100 will be trained in cosmetology,” the D-G said.
Some of the trainees when interviewed, thanked the NDE for giving them the opportunity to acquire skills needed to become self-reliant. (NAN)
