JOS – The Chairman, Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Samuel Pam, said that the state generated N6.48 billion as its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) between January and October 2014.
Pam made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Wednesday.
The chairman, who assumed duty in June 2013, described the feat as “commendable and encouraging’’, saying that Ministries, Departments and Agencies generated N1.91 billion while the service garnered N4.57 billion.
He further said that the highest revenue was collected in May with N813.03 million, while lowest of N567.7 million was recorded in April.
“From what we have generated within the last 10 months, it’s a sign that we shall end this year with very substantial amount as our IGR.
“This feat indeed is very commendable and encouraging; we hope to do more to generate good money for the government’s numerous developmental projects in the state,’’ he said.
Pam said that Gov. Jonah Jang intended to complete all ongoing projects before the end of his tenure on May 29, adding that this gingered the service to generate more revenue for his administration.
He said that the service had introduced various programmes aimed at opening more doors and windows in indentifying means through which more money could come to the coffers of the government.
He said the service had organised series of seminars, workshops and forums within the year toward ensuring that no loop hole was created in collection of revenue.
Pam warned tax evaders of the consequence of their actions, and admonished them to have a change of heart and pay their taxes before the wrath of the law catch up with them. (NAN)
