Police arraign bus conductor for assault

Enugu – The police on Tuesday arraigned a 42-year-old bus conductor, Sunday Ani, in Enugu East Magistrates’ Court for assault.

Prosecutor Reuben Ihejiobi told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 19.

Ihejiobi said that the complainants, Angela Onah and Oluchi Majo, reported to the case of assault at Abakpa Police Station.

He said that accused allegedly assaulted the complainants by hitting them with his fist at Nkwo Nike Market, Enugu.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]

He told the court that the accused action caused the complainants serious injuries which made them spend lots of money for medical treatment.

The prosecutor also said that the accused was an unrepentant offender, saying police had severally arrested the accused for similar offence in the past.

“As a bus conductor, he has been harassing and assaulting people, especially ladies and has been arrested severally,’’ he said.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Angel Chioke, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N30,000 and one surety in like sum.

Chioke adjourned the case till Nov. 9, for hearing. (NAN)
