ABUJA – The police on Friday arraigned a 34-year-old man, Sulaiman Umar, in a Kado Upper Area Court, charged with receiving stolen mattress and a standing fan.

Umar, who resides in Kado Vilage, Abuja, is facing a one-count charge of receiving stolen property.

The prosecutor, Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Joseph Biput of Road 112, Gwarimpa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, Abuja, on April 25.

Ibrahim said the accused had confessed buying the items from one Sulieman at N5,000, noting that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

If convicted the accused is liable to seven years in prison or an option of fine or both.

However, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the crime and the presiding judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, admitted him to bail in the sum of N10,000 and a surety in like sum.

Sadiq said the surety must have a fixed address and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction as he adjourned the matter until May 22 for further hearing. (NAN)
