Lagos – The Police in Lagos State say they have arrested more than 200 persons suspected to be involved in various crimes in Ikorodu area of the state in the last 24 hours.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fatai Owoseni, told newsmen on Tuesday in Ikeja that the arrests were made during raids on some of the black spots in the area.
“I know many people, particularly; residents in Ikorodu have been worried over different crimes in the area.
“We have been on top of it. One way we are tackling the activities of criminals in the area is the deployment of more police operatives to cover many areas.
“We have also introduced what we call “Tactical Operational Points’’. Many may see it as re-introduction of road blocks. We are not re-introducing road blocks,’’ he said.
According to Owoseni, the operation will only be carried out early in the morning between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., and in the evening between 5p.m and 9p.m.
“I appeal to people living in the area to bear with the police. We have arrested more than 200 persons on Tuesday morning from different black spots.
“The suspects are currently undergoing screening. The raid is a continuous exercise. Ikorodu is not a hideout or exit point for criminals,” he said.
Owoseni said the police would not take any information about criminals for granted and appealed to the public to always make reports on suspected persons or group of persons. (NAN)
