Authorities in Brazil have apprehended a woman suspected of accompanying a deceased man, purportedly her uncle, to a bank to secure a loan. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, has ignited a nationwide dialogue.
In the footage, the woman is seen in a Rio de Janeiro branch of Itau Bank, assisting the elderly man in a wheelchair as she attempts to facilitate his signature for a loan amounting to $3,000. Despite her efforts, the man remains unresponsive, prompting concern from bank staff.
Recognizing the man’s condition, bank attendants promptly summoned medical assistance. Upon arrival, paramedics determined that the man had passed away prior to reaching the bank, indicating that he had been deceased for several hours.
Authorities are working to determine the nature of the relationship between the woman and the deceased individual. While the family’s attorney contests the police’s version of events, stating that the man was alive upon arrival at the bank and asserting the woman’s emotional distress, investigations are ongoing, and no charges have been filed yet.
