Enugu- The police in Enugu have warned against the use of provocative statements by politicians during their campaign for the February elections in the state.
A statement by the state command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said on Tuesday that the command would not take it kindly with any defaulter of the warning as it would ensure that the law took its course.
“Enugu citizens and those involved in political campaigns should play the game according to the rules by being law abiding as they embark on political campaigns.
“The chairmen and secretaries of all political parties in the state should warn their members to be law abiding and avoid anything capable of resulting in the breakdown of law and order

“Politician and the citizens are advised in their own interest to stay clear of any statement likely to whip-up religious, ethnic or other sentiments that might result in the breakdown of law and order,’’ the statement said.
It noted that the police, working in synergy with sister security agents have been directed to arrest culprits in line with the relevant provisions of the law.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Adamu Abubakar, called on those concerned to be law abiding and to partner with the police and other security agencies to ensure violence-free elections. (NAN)
