Osun State – Police Command has invited erstwhile Deputy Governor of the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, over an alleged assault reported to the command by the late Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke in 2014.
In a letter titled “Invitation to Police station” dated 20, October, 2017 and addressed to Omisore, he (Omisore) is expected to meet with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence department.
The letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Umege Uzochukwu and obtained on Sunday reads in part; “You are invited to meet with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in connection with a case of Assault occasioning harm reported by late Senator Isiaka Adeleke against you”.
“Looking forward to seeing you on the 27th day of October, 2017 at about 1200hrs please”.
But a source close to Omisore told our correspondent Sunday evening that Omisore will tomorrow morning (Monday, 30 October, 2017) honour the invitation.
When asked if the date has not expired, the source said, “He will go there to honour their invitation. As you can see, it is the Deputy Commissioner of Police that invited him. He will go to Osogbo tomorrow and answer them”
“He will go there and prove his innocence”.
Adeleke, recalled while in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014, alleged that he was assaulted by Omisore during a meeting of PDP governorship aspirants for the 2014 governorship election in the state.
The late Senator who was then an aspirant of the party specifically alleged that the immediate past Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, assaulted him during an hot argument with Senator Omisore at the venue of a meeting with the PDP screening committee.
Omisore and Adesiyan denies the allegation.
Late Senator Adeleke, few days after he alleged that he was assaulted, shunned the PDP governorship primary election which produced Senator Omisore as the PDP candidate for the 2014 governorship election in Osun state.
He then decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he was offered the Osun West Senatorial ticket in 2015.
