Abuja – A retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Mr David Omojola, on Thursday in Abuja called for improved funding for the Nigeria Police Force.
Omojola spoke on behalf of other three retirees during the pull-out parade in honour of the retired officers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The officers are DIGs Hilary Opara, Adeola Adeniji and Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Felix Uyanna.
Omojola said that there was a need for adequate funding of the force to enable it set up its forensic laboratory for handling high profile murder cases.
“The Federal Government should consider improving funding of the Nigeria Police Force,’’ he said.
He stressed that having been depleted with over 5,000 men, the police needed to recruit more men to beef up the force for effective policing.
Omojola maintained that the calibre of officers in the police force were capable of handling any crisis that may arise.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“I am confident that the present crop of officers in the force are capable of handling internal crisis in the country,’’ he said.
He promised to always avail the force advice that would enhance its operations whenever they are called upon.
“We will continue to render advice that will enhance the operations of the force,’’ he said.
Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, said that the police would continue to reach out to the officers for advice.
“We shall continue to engage you and tap into your exceedingly professional experiences for guidance.
“I pledge on behalf of all officers that you are leaving behind a service that shall sustain the existing comradeship.
“I can assure you that while you may be exiting the police formally today, certainly we will not allow you to exit the police family,’’ Arase said. (NAN)
