The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a Juju Priest, Ugochukwu Onuigbo, among 25 other individuals suspected to be part of a car snatching syndicate operating within Rivers State.
Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, unveiled the suspects on Wednesday at the Command Headquarters on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, detailing the circumstances leading to their arrest.
Disu highlighted the concerted efforts of the tactical team and investigators in responding to a surge in car thefts and robberies in the area. He singled out Chidozie Anthony Onyekwe and Kelechi Igwe as significant arrests, identifying Chidozie as the ring leader orchestrating car theft operations in Rivers State, while Kelechi specializes in disabling vehicle trackers.
Furthermore, Disu disclosed that stolen vehicles are often dismantled and sold as scrap in Mgbuka Obosi, Onitsha, Anambra State. He revealed that a total of 79 vehicles have been linked to the suspects, who had formed connections while incarcerated in correctional centers.
The police have recovered 17 vehicles so far, with efforts underway to return them to their rightful owners.
