ABUJA – The Spokesperson of FCT Police Command, Altine Daniel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), on Tuesday assured Abuja residents that the command would work tirelessly to ensure hitch free ‘ember months.’
She said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
According to her, although the ember months are just like the other months of the year, there are always mixed feelings about them because of the high rate of festivities during the period.
Daniel said many people take the advantage of the festive season to engage themselves in criminal activities.
“The reason why there’s this huge cry about the ‘ember months’ is that there are lots of festivities and when there are lots of festivities, there are lots of movement of cash, people and goods.
“Some people tend to take advantage of this and get involved in crime so as to impress their people at the end of the day.’’
The spokesperson, however, said that despite the high rate of criminal activities during the season, the command had put in place measures to curb them. [eap_ad_2] “On our part, we’ve drawn up a programme where we will be able to checkmate the activities of criminals, especially on the highway.
“We’ve beefed up security on the highways by increasing more vehicles on those routes, especially the Abaji – Lokoja axis, Bwari – Kaduna axis, Nyanya – Nassarawa axis and other smaller routes that we know people would move in and out through.
“Our patrols within the city centre and adjoining area councils have been beefed up, raids are things we’ve been doing all year round and we’re heightening it up now.
“Overall, in the FCT we are really committed to do our very best to see that we have hitch free ember months.’’
She, however, urged the residents to be on the lookout for any occurrences because they owe it to themselves to be vigilant and safe.
She also advised that vehicles should have trackers to make recovery easier if stolen and urged the residents to avail the police with information to help arrest criminals.
“We owe it a responsibility to ourselves, our community and our country to do the right things and residents should please keep the security numbers handy so that they can call on security agents in case of anything.
“We should put trackers in our vehicles so that in case they are taken we can trace them and return them back to you.
“Put enough lightning in your house, especially if you are travelling, and let your neighbour know you are not around in case they see any movement so that they can alert security agents.’’ (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
