Osogbo, – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Osun Command on Thursday called for concerted effort with the relevant stakeholders to ensure safety on roads across the country during the general elections.
The Sector Commander, Mr Peter Oke, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the sideline of a party organised for the officers of the command in Osogbo.
“The celebration was organised to sensitise and interact with stakeholders on the need to reduce carnage on the roads to its bearest minimum.
“Safety on Nigerian roads should be a shared responsibility and everyone’s business rather than leaving it in the hands of officers of the command.
“Our command has started cross-checking vehicles, which would be used by INEC to convey sensitive materials to expected locations.
“We have been authorised by the headquarters to ensure all our moving vans for towing of vehicles are on standby.
“Our men are ready to work with sister agencies towards ensuring that the election is peaceful, ” Oke said.
The sector commander said the drivers that would be involved in the electoral process were already undergoing training, while some were being retrained for ease of delivery of election materials.
Oke, therefore, warned motorists to desist from one-way driving, adding that such persons would not go unpunished.
NAN reports that the occasion witnessed the presence of security heads in the state with traditional rulers, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), officials and the media.
