Owerri – Dr Celestina Njoku, Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo, said it had embarked on entrepreneurship training to ensure self-reliant graduates.

made this known to newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday.
She said that the move was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari-led government’s policy of entrepreneurship for Nigerian youths.
According to her, the school has a policy where every student, before graduation, is made to undergo one form of skills acquisition or the other to enable him to become self-reliant.
Njoku said gone were the days when fresh graduates depended on government for “white collar jobs” which may not be within reach at such moments.
“Every graduate is made to have one skill or the other; in bead making, fashion and designing, nail production and different forms of fabrication.
“This will keep them going pending the time they get another job.”
The Rector commended journalists in the state for partnering with her since she assumed office, adding that their partnership was responsible for some of the successes recorded by the institution.
She charged journalists to be constructive in their criticism and to ensure balanced reporting always.
Njoku called on the Federal and State Governments to assist the institution in rehabilitating its access road, which she noted had become a problem to its staff.
The Chairman of the NUJ, Imo Council, Mr Innocent Igwe, commended the Rector for development of infrastructure in the institution and her leadership qualities.
He also commended the Rector for the cordial relationship that existed between her and staff of the institution and urged her not to relent.
Igwe said with the entrepreneurial centre, graduates of the institution would become job creators rather than job seekers.
He, however, used the occasion to appeal to the federal and state governments and the Niger Delta Development Commission to reconstruct the road leading to the institution.
He also said that there was need to rehabilitate the Owerri/Umuapu/Port Harcourt express road especially now that the rain has set in. (NAN)
