Kuje (FCT) – The proprietor of Eagle House International School, Kuje, FCT on Friday advised parents to monitor their children while on vacation to ensure they were of good behaviour.
Mr Micheal Bamidele, the proprietor, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the graduation of some pupils of the primary school.
Bamidele said that the holiday should not be a period of ceremonies, recklessness and living a bad life but for revision and summer lessons.
According to him, some parents do not have time to monitor what their children are doing during the holidays, as this can be inimical to good child upbringing.
“There are some people who claim that their children go to holiday lesson but this is another opportunity for some children to enter into bad groups.
“As a parent, it is equally good for you to go and see where your child is attending the holiday lesson and know whether the right thing is being done there.
“This is necessary so that they will not constitute themselves and be nuisance to the society,” he said.
The proprietor further advised parents to ask about their children’s results and praise them when they had done well as well as encourage them if they did not excel in their studies.
According to Bamidele, when children notice that their parents are interested in them, they will go out and become good ambassadors.
He said the issue of child abuse and molestation could be reduced in the country if parents and guardians monitored their children.
“Parents must make time for their children and know who they mingle with, where they go and the kind of people they associate with.
“You must try to know what your children are doing, watch what they do at home, the types of film they watch and other things.’’ (NAN)
