Abuja – The Police Service Commission (PSC) has denied appointing a Secretary to the commission as alleged by an online media report.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, in Abuja on Tuesday.
It said that the commission only appointed Mr Emmauel Ibe, Director, Administration and Finance of the Commission acting secretary to the commission during its plenary meeting on Dec.16, 2015.
The statement said the appointment followed a vacuum created by the deployment of the former Secretary, Malam Aliyu Bisala, to the Ministry of Trade and Investment.
“It is instructive to note that Ibe was appointed on acting capacity pending when Mr President appoints a substantive Secretary or confirms his appointment.
“The appointment was also done so that the activities and programmes of the commission will not unnecessarily be hampered by the vacuum,“he said.

It said that the appointment had not violated the constitution as the commission in Plenary had the powers to appoint an acting secretary.
The statement said that the commission took all the required steps not only in the appointment of Ibe but also in the running of the affairs of the commission.
It stated that the commission wrote to the government on the shortfall in the number of its members after the Senate refused to approve the appointment of “one member and the vacuum in the office of the Secretary’’.
It called on the public to discountenance the publication which did no good to the country’s growing democracy.(NAN)
