Enugu – Rangers International FC of Enugu on Tuesday commenced intensive training, ahead of the recommencement of the second stanza of Glo Premier League.
The Flying Antelops, as Rangers are dubbed, began the full training after winning their FA Cup round of 16 game against Kwara United of Ilorin in Abuja.
The club, in a statement said it had shifted attention toward the league after securing the quarter-final ticket in the FA Cup competition.
The statement, signed the club’s spokesperson, Foster Chime, refuted reports that claimed that the players skipped their Monday training.
“The players had interactive session with the new sports commissioner, Charles Ndukwe, on issues bordering on the welfare players as well as the settlement of their five months salary arrears.
“Before the meeting the commissioner had a heart-to-heart with the players and the club’s management on over positive ways of alleviating their financial problems.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“This issue was discussed so that it will not affect their focus toward securing the elusive FA Cup, now that they are closer to winning the coveted trophy,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is committed toward ensuring that the players are comfortable and well-motivated to perform well at all times.
“It is based on promises and the commissioner’s assurances that the players came out in full force for Tuesday training.
“We trained for three hours before the watchful eyes of the technical Adviser, Imam Amapakabo,” the club said.
“The training is aimed at keeping the players fit because we do not want to leave any stones unturned in their determination at ensuring victory,” the statement said.
The General Manger of the club, Paul Chibuzor, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), affirmed his readiness to work with the new sports commissioner toward restoring Rangers‘ past glory. (NAN)
