Abuja – The House of Representatives on Wednesday, mandated its Committees on Works and Appropriations, respectively, to include the reconstruction of Damboa Road in Maiduguri in the 2017 budget.
This followed a motion by Rep. Abulkadir Rahis (Borno-APC), who said that Damboa road, with distance of 5.5 kilometres, was a Federal road and one of the busiest roads in Maiduguri metropolis.
The lawmaker expressed concern that the road had deteriorated and had caused avoidable accidents and unnecessary traffic inconveniences to motorists.
According to him, this long stretch of road passes through important institutions in Maiduguri and plays an essential role in the socio-economic lives of inhabitants of the city.
He, therefore, said that there was an urgent need to carry out repairs on the road to avert further loss of lives and property, more deterioration and hardships on the people.
The motion was unanimously adopted by members when it was put to a voice vote by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Yussuff Lasun, who presided at the plenary.
