Abuja -The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Federal Ministry of Works to ensure speedy completion of the rehabilitation of Enugu-Onitsha expressway to reduce carnage on it.
The call followed a motion by Rep. Eucharia Azodo, which was adopted by the house without debate
Order VIII, Rule 51 (5) of the Standing Orders of the House provides that such motion is not open for a debate.
In the motion, Azodo observed that the deplorable state of the road had brought hardship to motorists who ply the road.
According to her, the deplorable state of the road causes motorists to veer into the adjoining bushes in an effort to find alternative routes.
“This area has, therefore, become a den of armed robbers who attack motorists, especially at night,’’ she said.

She told the house that ongoing rehabilitation of the road had produced poor quality work.
“The expressway which links Enugu and Anambra states is a vital trunk `A’ road that is of vital economic importance to the people of the two states in particular, and generality of Nigerians.
“If nothing is done to complete the rehabilitation of the road, it will continue to dilapidate’’ Azodo said.
Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, therefore, mandated the Committee on Works, when constituted, to liaise with the ministry of works to ensure the rehabilitation of the road was completed. (NAN)
