PORT HARCOURT (Sundiata Post) – The Rivers State House of Assembly was on Wednesday morning (today) pulled down on the orders of the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
This is happening barely 24 hours after the faction loyal to him won a judicial victory over the control of the House.
The governor’s media handlers said the action was taken to enable the state government carry out a comprehensive renovation of the property after it was torched by unknown assailants last month.
Just yesterday, Tuesday, the factional speaker loyal to him, Rt. Hon Edison Ehie, was pronounced the authentic speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly by a Rivers State High Court.
Sundiata Post recalls that there has been a face-off in the Assembly following the altercation between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The quarrel led to a division in the Assembly, with 27 members out of the 32-member House, backing Wike.
Sundiata Post recalls that the 27 Wike loyalists on December 11 defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On December 11, the 27 lawmakers, with Martin Amaewhule as Speaker, defected to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
