Port Harcourt – Prof. Blessing Didia, the Vice Chancellor (V-C), Rivers State University (RSU), has reiterated his commitment to stamp out cultism and insecurity from the university.
Didia told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday that the university had already procured some Close Circuit Television (CCTV) monitors and metal detectors meant to ensure effective security on the campus.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the V-C was reacting to recent robbery attacks on students of the university.
He said that the university had also strengthened its synergy with the police and other law enforcement agents to ensure rapid response to distress calls.
“This collaboration will avail us 24 hours’ surveillance and patrol around the campus. It will also ensure immediate response from the security agencies to various distress calls,’’ he said.
Didia also said that the university’s security system was already undergoing internal restructuring to ensure effective service delivery.
He called on members of the university community to report any suspicious movements to the security department for immediate action.
“Our university environment must be free of crime; and achieving this requires the efforts of every stakeholder.
“We will all work together to ensure that criminal activities are not allowed in our university unchecked.
“ Criminals must not be allowed to have access to our campus,’’ he said.
