Abuja (Sundiata Post) — In a bid to improve the economy of Isiokpo, the ancient headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State Government, has awarded contract for the construction of the internal roads of the town.
Speaking during the thanksgiving service in honour of PDP chieftain, Maxwell Tasie-Amadi, who went through an open heart surgery at the Saint John’s Anglican Church, Isiokpo on Sunday, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, declared that the people of Isiokpo will no longer suffer marginalisation.
The governor, according to a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Electronic Media), Simeon Nwakaudu, said that his administration will ensure that roads in the town are motorable and other basic amenities improved upon.
He said that the road from Isiokpo to Ibaa is already under construction in line with his promise to the people.
“We will revive Isiokpo and make it economically viable once again. Like other cities, Isiokpo will bubble again,” he said.

He lauded the people of Isiokpo for supporting his administration, pointing out that he will change the negative narrative foisted on Isiokpo by the immediate past governor, who hails from Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area, was completely neglected by the immediate past APC administration in the State on the account of perceived differences.
Commenting on the thanksgiving, Wike thanked God for granting good health to Tasie-Amadi, after his open heart surgery.
Earlier, Tasie-Amadi said that God used Wike to ensure that he regains his health.
He said that the governor acted promptly, after learning of his condition.
