LAGOS – A Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced a 21-year-old saleswoman,Chinyere Eze, to one year imprisonment for stealing N3.7million belonging to her employer.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, handed down the sentence following a plea of guilty by Eze.
“Based on the facts of this case confirmed report and the plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to one year imprisonment without an option of fine,” she ruled.
The convict had on Oct. 22 changed her “not guilty’’ plea.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke told the court that the accused committed the offence between Feb. 5 and July 29.
He said she stole a total of N3.7million from her employer’s shop located at No. 57, Ojumoye St., Mushin.
“The accused within the said period was delegated to make daily deposit of sales to the company account of her employer, Mr Raymond Okafor.
“She would fill two deposit slips at Diamond Bank where she also had her personal account, one with her personal details and the other with that of her employer.
“She would then swap the original slips … the orignial slip containing her personal bank details will then be attached to the duplicate and triplicate copies of her employer, ’’Adegoke said.
He said the accused broke Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.(NAN)
