Minna – The Police Command in Niger, has said that it deployed 5,000 operatives to ensure security throughout the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Monday.
“We have deployed 5,000 personnel to all the nook and crannies of Niger, including Eid praying grounds to ensure security of lives and property from the beginning of Sallah to the end,’’ he said.
Elkana also said that operatives from special units such as anti-bomb squad, anti-riot and detectives were also deployed.
He warned individuals or groups who might want to foment trouble to desist as the command was ready to deal with any breach of the law.
The spokesman urged members of the public to report any suspicious movement or object to the nearest police station or security agency.
Similarly, Mr Philip Ayuba, the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, told NAN that the corps deployed 500 personnel in Minna and environs.
Ayuba said that the measure was to check any breach of the law before, during and after the celebration. (NAN)
