According to a report by LEADERSHIP newspaper, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano. This decision follows the Kano State House of Assembly’s resolution to dethrone the current Emir and dismantle the four new Emirates established under a controversial 2019 law.
LEADERSHIP reported on good authority that Sanusi II had been reinstated and was expected to return to Kano on Friday. The restructuring of the Kano Emirate, which led to the creation of new Emirates, was viewed as a political move to reduce the influence of then Emir Sanusi II, known for his criticism of the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje administration.
The Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, confirmed that the Amendment Bill had been sent to the governor for assent. With the passage of the Bill, Sanusi automatically stands reinstated without the need for confirmation.
Under the repealed law, all district heads elevated or appointed are to revert to their previous positions. The dissolution of the new Emirates restores the traditional authority of the old Kano Emirate Council.
