In a stirring address at the opening ceremony of the first session of the 9th Synod of the Diocese of Lagos West of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized his administration’s commitment to serving the people as a divine mandate.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude for the divine guidance that has propelled his administration’s accomplishments, attributing the state’s greatness to God. He underscored the administration’s dedication to the THEMES Plus Agenda, describing it as a holistic approach to enhancing citizens’ welfare and quality of life.
Highlighting the pivotal role of prayers in the state’s achievements, Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded the partnership between the government and the church, emphasizing the significance of spirituality in governance. He affirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people and pledged to sustain efforts aimed at improving their well-being.
Commending the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt Rev Olusola Odedeji, for his impactful leadership within the church, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged Christians in Lagos State to continue lifting the state in prayers, acknowledging the invaluable support of the religious community.
In his address, Bishop Odedeji addressed societal concerns, expressing dismay over ungodly practices within the church and calling for a return to authentic teachings. He urged the government to heed the people’s needs, particularly in economic decision-making, advocating for measures to reduce governance costs and enhance the nation’s economy.
Drawing attention to redundant agencies, Bishop Odedeji advocated for their consolidation to streamline efforts and optimize resources. He emphasized the importance of fiscal prudence and urged the government to prioritize policies that would alleviate the economic burdens faced by Nigerians.
As Governor Sanwo-Olu and Bishop Odedeji echoed their commitments to serving the people and promoting societal well-being, the Synod served as a platform for reflection, dialogue, and renewed dedication to advancing the collective welfare of Lagosians and Nigerians at large.
