Lagos – For allegedly stealing three cars valued at N10 million, a 40-year-old security guard, Gambo Kamsilo, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Kamsilo, a resident of Mowe area of Ogun, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offences on Oct.16, 2016 on Ikorodu Road, Palmgrove, Lagos.
Awase said that the accused and others still at large conspired to steal three cars valued at N10 million, property of Munich Venture Ltd.
“The accused stole unregistered two Lexus Jeeps (blue and silver colour) and a Toyota Camry Saloon car, totalling 10 million,” he said.
Awase said that the accused and others invaded the company and carted away the vehicles.
“The accused broke the manager’s office to take the car keys and ran away with the cars to unknown destination.
“The accused and his accomplices, who were security guards of the company, were nowhere to be found as they switched off their cell phones.
“The accused was later arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State after nine months of his disappearance with the cars and was handed over to the police,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted N1 million bail with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun, said that one of the sureties must be a community leader and should be gainfully employed.
Adigun said that the sureties must show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until Aug.17 for mention. (NAN)
