Lagos – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 23-year-old security guard, Francis Emmanuel, who admitted stealing 20 pieces of scaffolding iron clips worth N20, 000.
The Magistrate, Miss A.O. Akinde, ordered that Emmanuel should be kept in the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending review of the facts of the case and sentencing.
Akinde adjourned the case until July 15 for the review and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Chekwube Okeh, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 18 at Dover Hotel Ltd., Lagos.
Okeh said that the defendant stole the iron clips from the hotel after he unlawfully entered the premises.
“Emmanuel scaled the fence to gain entry to steal the items.
“Security guards sighted him and raised alarm; Emmanuel wanted to escape through the fence but was apprehended,” the prosecutor said.
Okeh said that stealing contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant may be jailed for up to three years, on conviction, according to the section.
