Sen. Nyako introduces soft loan programme for petty women traders


Yola – Sen. Abdul-Azeez Nyako (APC-Adamawa Central) has introduced a soft loan programme for petty women traders in his constituency.
Flagging-off the programme in collaboration with Ideal Woman Loans and Saving Limited on Sunday in Yola, Nyako said the measure was to enable the women boost their businesses.
He advised women in his constituency to form groups and liaise with the handlers (Loans and Saving Ltd) of the programme for a bigger assistance.
The lawmaker also said he had obtained fertiliser and seedlings which would soon be distributed to farmer groups in the constituency.
“I also have a special youth empowerment programme coming up in September,’’ Nyako said.
The Head of Ideal Woman Loans and Saving Limited, Hajiya Hauwa Abdullahi, said more than 500 women from 29 women groups have benefitted from the first phase of the programme.
Hauwa urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity in utilisation of the N10,000 given to each of them to boost their businesses for more bigger assistance.
In her remarks, the representative of National Council for Women Society, Hajiya Maryam Boda, said the gesture would give the women a sense of belonging.
“This is for petty women traders. We would love to see another package for women who want to start petty trading so that all categories of women would be carried along,” Boda said. (NAN)
