Abuja – The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has described the late former President Shehu Shagari as a compassionate leader.
Dr Francis Faduyile, President of the association, said that Shagari’s tenure had impacted positively, especially in the health sector, where he instituted welfare-driven policies.
Faduyile, who made the remarks in a statement on Monday in Abuja, also described Shagari as a symbol of unity.
He said that NMA and the entire body of the Medical and Dental Practitioners nationwide expressed condolences to the family of the former President.
“We commiserate with President Muhammadu Buhari, the family of former President Shehu Shagari, the good people of Sokoto State and the generality of Nigerians on the demise of the revered leader,’’ Faduyile said.
Shagari, aged 93, died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Dec. 28. (NAN)
