Sokoto – Dr Balarabe Kakale, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Health, said on Monday in Sokoto that the government would
establish emergency blood units for obstetric patients in hospitals across the state.
Kakale spoke at the opening of the Project Implementation Planning Workshop entitled, ” Strengthening Health Outcomes For Women and Children Project.’’
” These units will provide obstetric patients with free blood during emergencies.
” This is to further reduce maternal mortality and morbidity,” Kakale said.
According to the commissioner, government also plans to establish accident emergency response units on major highways across the state.
He stated that the units would provide emergency care to accident victims across the state.

‘” Such accident victims will also be provided with free medical care for the first 24 hours,” the commissioner said.
Dr Hussaini Abdu, the Country Director of Plan International Nigeria Project, who also spoke, said that the five-year project was being funded by Global Affairs, based in Canada.
Abdu said the project aimed at the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the state.( NAN)
