Sokoto, – Sokoto State Government said it has awarded a N1.7 billion contract for the construction of rural roads covering 96.5 kilometers.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner for Rural Development, Abdullahi Maigwandu made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday on the two year anniversary of the government.
Maigwandu explained that the roads included the 18 km Goronyo-Gare road awarded at the cost of N296 million; the 21 km Kwanar Bawa-Kwacce Horo-Kalenjeni road constructed at N262 million.
The commissioner added that the project included the 13 km Dabagin Ardo-Ge’ere-Heterete feeder road in Dange/Shuni Local Government which cost N137 million among others..
On rural electrification, he said the administration was involved in several “multi million Naira rural electrification projects across the state, to boost socioeconomic activities.”
He also said that the government had procured submersible pumps, 200 power generators and has embarked on the construction of 12 solar-powered bore holes to boost water supply in rural areas.
