Kano – The Kano State Government on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three companies for construction of 300 megawatts of solar power energy at 420 million dollars.
The signing of the MoU marked the end of the second Kano Economic and Investment Submit, organised by the Kano State Government as part of activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the state.
The state Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Rabi’u Boko, signed the agreement on behalf of the government while representatives of the companies signed.
The state government had also signed agreement with seven other companies for execution of other projects in the state.
After the ceremony, Boko said the state government would contribute between 13 per cent and 20 per cent, including land and related facilities for the projects.
According to him, the projects, when completed, will improve power supply in the state and move the economy forward.
He said each of the three companies was expected to provide 100 megawatts of solar energy to be used for the industries in the state.
The other companies that signed the MoU with the government after the summit included Brains and Hammers which will construct Kanawa Economic City at N146bn.
Milestones International Company had also signed an agreement for the construction of Tricycle Assembly plant at N630 million while Shara Dukiya Nigeria limited will construct Waste Management and Recycling Plant.
Other companies are Dangote Rice Limited, to construct large scale integrated rice mill at 30 million dollars while Optic Fibre Broadbased Nigeria limited will construct Optic Fibre cable communication network for Kano metropolis at 200 million dollars.
