Abuja – Mr Mela Nunghe, a senior lawyer with Samkong Chambers, Abuja, says spirited cooperation of all stakeholders in the judiciary was critical to repositioning the sector for better servive delivery.
Nunghe said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
He maintained that the new 2017/2018 legal year would be successful if the bar, bench, security agencies and government all worked together.
According to him, many factors contribute to delays in the justice system, especially in criminal matters, where the court needs the cooperation of the prisons service and the Police force.
”There are many and different constraints faced by judges, lawyers, other judicial officers and security outfits which can be tackled holistically.
”Things like transportation of accused persons to court, workload of judges, filing and other processes.
”All stakeholders need to work together, synergise to make it work better; that is why we need that spirited cooperation.
”The court clerks must do better, government and private lawyers must put in more effort to ensure speedy and effective delivery of service because justice delayed is justice denied,” he said. (NAN)
