LAGOS – A renowned sports analyst, Tayo Balogun, has advised the government to ensure the early preparation of athletes ahead of major competitions to enhance their performance.
He gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.
Balogun said that if more importance was attached to the early preparation of athletes for competitions, the nation was bound to reap bountifully.
He spoke against the backdrop of forthcoming All Africa Games scheduled to hold in Congo Brazzaville.
Balogun, however, advised that funds allocated for athletes’ preparation should be judiciously used
The Games will hold from Sept. 4 to Sept. 14.
“The template has always been there, and I wonder why we keep doing the same thing the same way and expecting a different result.

“The maxim is that if you do it the same way, you have no right whatsoever to expect a different result.
“Our athletes are hardly prepared; I was part of the presidential summit on sports under the Jonathan administration.
“We made some suggestions that money should be made available much more early enough, so that athletes would be able to train
“But what we have is a situation that this money doesn’t get to the athletes early enough, and at the end of the day the money is corrupted, corrupted in the sense that its diverted.
“So, if a situation arises that money is available early enough, we will get a wonderful result.’’
