OMU-ARAN – A Lagos-based Lanny Sports Promotion on Monday presented footballs and trophies to three community schools in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara.
The organisation’s Coordinator in Kwara, Mr Niyi Adebayo, who made the presentation in Omu-Aran, said the gesture was aimed at complementing government’s efforts at resuscitating sports at the grassroots.
The three schools that benefitted are Ogbo Grammar School, Aperan Comprehensive College and Ofe-Aran Commercial College.
NAN reports that each schools received 15 footballs, pumps and trophies.
Adebayo said the donation was also aimed at bringing out the students’ potential in sports and ultimately bring glory to the state in the future.
He urged the schools’ authorities to make judicious use of the facilities and also accord priority to sports and recreational activities.
“The role of sport, especially football in entrenching unity and peaceful co-existence cannot be over emphasised.
“It is in the light of the foregoing that our organisation deems it good to be actively involved in the promotion of sports, particularly at the grassroots.

“The whole idea is to rekindle the interest of youths in sports and bring about the desired progress, unity and glory to our fatherland,” Adebayo said.
Adebayo, who did not disclose this cost of the items, also urged more private sector participation in sports development.
He said the call became necessary for the desired transformation in the sector to be realised.
“The act of developing sports should not be an exclusive preserve of the government. Football globally has continued to attract more private sector participation, investment and more economic gains.
“Wealthy individuals, corporate organisations and groups are therefore duty bound to assist government in this national assignment,” Adebayo said.
Speaking, Mr Bidemi Olawuyi, the secretary of Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA), said the community would forever remain grateful for the organisation’s contribution to sports development in the area.
The Principal, Ofe-Aran Commercial College, Mr Ajiboye Oladele, on behalf of the other recipients, thanked the organisation for the gesture and promised the judicious use of the items. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
