The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Orelope Adefulire, took time out to blast hip hop singer, Iyanya’s female dancers, calling them a ‘disgrace to womanhood’, at the closing ceremony of MTN Lagos Street Soccer at the Campos Mini Stadium, Victoria Island, Lagos, last weekend. The Deputy Governor, who was the special guest of honour at the event, was not amused at the naked display put up by the ‘Kukere’ crooner’s dancers as they entertained the crowd. The ladies, who were garbed in outfits that showed they had nothing underneath, came in for the scathing attack by the furious woman because of what she saw as an exhibition of nakedness in the name of entertainment. Though the crowd seemed to enjoy the show of shame, the Lagos State number two citizen frowned at the show of shame and did not hide her dismay. After the performance, she called on the girls and the following ensued;
Deputy Governor: I guess you are professional dancers?
Iyanya’s Dancers: Yes, ma!
Deputy Governor: If you must entertain without pants on, certainly not in a gathering like this. Just see how you are disgracing and degrading womanhood. Don’t try it again.
Iyanya’s Dancers: Yes ma!
Hope they will take the woman’s words to heart and put a stop to the degradation of womanhood.
