Barcelona president, Josep Bartomeu has insisted that the signing of Luis Suarez will not have any negative consequences for Lionel Messi.
Club icon Johan Cruyff recently criticised the Catalans’ decision to lure the Uruguay international to La Liga and question-marks have been raised over whether the former Liverpool star is compatible with Messi and Neymar.
Nevertheless, Bartomeu is confident that Messi will continue to thrive with the 27-year-old next to him, stressing that it is not the first time the Argentina international will partner up with a traditional forward.[eap_ad_2]
“The arrival of Suarez does not signify the end of our style of play with a false No.9, because that will always be Messi,” Bartomeu was quoted as saying by Sport.
“This is not the first time that we have had a traditional forward playing alongside Leo. We have had players like David Villa, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto’o in the past.
“With Suarez, we signed the best forward who was available on the market.”
Suarez arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday and will sign a five-year deal with the Camp Nou side upon completion of his medical later this week. (goal.com)[eap_ad_3]
