ABUJA – The 26 Super Eagles players invited to preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), qualifiers against Chad, have been given two days grace period to arrive in camp in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), and Head Coach Stephen Keshi, had on May 14 given the players May 19 deadline to report to camp.
This followed the release of the list of the invited players for the country’s AFCON qualifier against Chad.
Patrick Pascal, the Super Eagles Coordinator, however, told NAN in Abuja that the grace period became necessary to enable the players prosecute their mid-week league matches.
“Most of the players are supposed to feature in their clubs’ league matches this Wednesday.
“It will make no sense for them to arrive in camp Tuesday May 19, and their clubs will write for their release to enable them play the matches’’, Pascal said.
According to him, the players are now expected to arrive in camp on Wednesday immediately after their matches.
Pascal noted that Keshi, his assistants Ike Shorunmu, Salisu Yusuf and other backroom staff, were around, following the opening of the camp.

NAN reports that the list of players invited by Keshi includes three goalkeepers, nine defenders, six midfielders and eight strikers, all home-based, for the Nigeria-Chad encounter.
The list of the foreign-based players is expected to be released this weekend. (NAN
